About The Font

Barbie is a fashion doll that has been loved by millions for over 60 years now. This doll was created in 1959 by Elliot and Ruth Handler, co-founders of the American Toy Company, Mattel, Inc. The idea behind making this fashion doll was so interesting, though. 

Ruth Handler first designed the doll after seeing her daughter playing with paper dolls. After implementing multiple ideas and designs, Ruth was finally inspired by a German doll called “Bad Lilli” to create the ultimate Barbie Doll. The name “Barbie” was taken from Ruth Handler’s daughter, called “Barbara.”

Now let’s talk about the Barbie brand logo that Mattel’s company has been using since the release of this doll. Bright pink is the signature color of the Barbie logo. From 1959 to 2009, the logo went through five major redesigns. But the company got back to its original logo in 2009, adopting the bright pink girlish logotype as its visual identity again. 

The Barbie logo was designed by using a script-type cursive font; there are no existing fonts that match exactly this font. Many say “Barbie Medium” has been used on the Barbie logo, but we found out that Dollie Script Font is the most similar typeface to this typeface.

Dollie Script Font is a script brush typeface that resembles handwritten script with a dancing baseline. The designer added curves with italics to this typeface, which makes it so unique and beautiful.

This font was designed by Måns Grebäck on March 28th, 2017. Then it was again updated on April 10th, 2020. 

This font comes in true type format with around 359 characters and 688 glyphs.
