The Breaking Bad logo is a plain, bold sans-serif with the periodic table tiles for “Br” and “Ba” dropped into the words. Sources disagree on the exact typeface, but the free Heart Breaking Bad font copies the look and is the one to download here. It was made by Chequered Ink.

About the Breaking Bad font

Breaking Bad aired on AMC from January 20, 2008, and was created by Vince Gilligan. It follows Walter White, a chemistry teacher who turns to making drugs. The title treatment fits that story: the first two letters of “Breaking” and “Bad” are shown as chemical elements. “Br” is bromine, with atomic number 35, and “Ba” is barium, with atomic number 56.

As for the letters around those tiles, a 2014 TypeRoom piece names Arial MT Bold with a second typeface called Bundy. The Indieground blog lists Helvetica Bold. Both agree on a heavy, neutral sans, and no official source confirms either one. The tiles are what make the logo stand out, and you cannot get those from a normal font.

Look closely at the two tiles. They are the whole trick, and they work as a small chemistry joke that pays off once you know the story.
