The Johnston font is the sans serif that Edward Johnston designed in 1916 for London Underground. ITC Johnston is a commercial digital version of that design, and this page covers it. Check the license before you use it in paid work.
About the Johnston font
London Underground has used Johnston for station signs and printed information for more than a century. Its clean, even strokes are easy to read from a distance. The Underground name and roundel are tied closely to this typeface, so many people link the look to London.
ITC Johnston is a digital version sold as a commercial font. It keeps the feel of the original design. It is a separate product, though, so it is not the same file the Underground uses. The family includes medium and bold weights, and the tester below uses both.

How to use Johnston font
If you own a licensed copy, right-click the font file on Windows, choose Install, and restart your design app if the font does not appear. On a Mac, double-click the file and select Install Font in Font Book.
In Canva, check the font menu first. If the font is missing and your plan and license allow uploads, upload the file. If not, save a PNG from a desktop app and place that image in Canva.
Johnston suits signs, posters, banners and thumbnails with short, plain titles. Use the bold weight for headings and the medium weight for smaller lines.
