The idea of Miami Vice came from an American television crime series called “Miami Vice,” created by Anthony Yerkovich. The drama series first aired on the USA Network in 1984.

Morris Fuller Benton designed the Miami Vice font. He is well known for his incredible typefaces and graphic designs. The designer first designed this font for the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) in 1927. It was in uppercase only. The name of the font was called “Broadway Font.”

When releasing the drama series Miami Vice, he designed the show’s logo with the same font. But he used two separate typefaces from the Broadway font family to make the Miami Vice’s logo. 

The upper part is “Broadway regular.” It has 243 glyphs and 2048 units per EM. The other lower part is the “Broadway stencil,” which has 396 glyphs and 1000 units per EM. 

If we talk about Broadway Font, Broadway is a decorative sans serif typeface. The font has 82 characters, 4 weights, and 16 font families, from regular to flat 3D.
