About The Font
Papyrus is a typeface that successfully combines the beauty of a traditional Roman letterform with the handwritten look of highly skilled calligraphy. It is one of the most used fonts in history. Microsoft programs use the font for windows. Starting from the 10.3 Panther version, released in 2003, MacOS also used this font as a part of its basic installation.
A graphic and web designer called Chris Costello created this font in 1882. Then he sold the font for $750 to a London-based company called Letraset. A year later, they published the font in 1983. Now ITC (International Typeface Corporation) owns the typeface. Still the designer receives a certain amount of royalty despite the fonts inclusion on all computers running a Windows or Mac operating system since 2000.
The designer wanted to create a typeface that would look like it was written on papyrus 2000 years ago. The font was designed over six months using calligraphy pens and textured paper. Costello got the inspiration for creating this typeface from the Bible. He wanted to see what a font looked like in Biblical times in the Middle East.
The Papyrus font has 387 characters, 94 glyphs, and 56 language support. This TTF font can be found in regular style only. It has several distinctive characteristics, such as irregular curves, rough edges, and higher horizontal strokes in capital letters.
The Papyrus font still has some inconvenient features that sometimes bother the users. One thing that makes the font “bad” is that, it poorly manages the visual weights
within each of its letters. It makes the font have an even texture that can’t be read easily when set in body copy. Also, it doesn’t have a lot of options for changes in color or size. It is pretty challenging to move the font back and forth while editing the text and previewing the design.
The font has another regular version called version 1.00. This typeface has 241 characters and 331 glyphs.
The Historia Font is a similar typeface to the Papyrus Font.
The Papyrus font has a mass usage. Microsoft and macOS both use this font in various applications. Many famous movies and mass media companies have also used this font for their logos, including Avatar and Disney Plus.
So, there is no doubt about using this font on any of your personal or official projects. You can use this font on the covers, titles, websites, online platforms, and other noted spots. The Papyrus font would look perfect for any design purpose. Like banners, visiting cards, brochures, etc.
As this font looks like an ancient font, you can use it in any historically based TV show.
