About Monopoly Game

Monopoly is considered one of the most popular board games in the world, and it was created by the Parker Brothers. It is a board game that is played by two to eight players. The game’s objective is to make the player the wealthiest by buying, developing, and trading properties and charging other players rent when they land on those properties. The game board is divided into squares that represent different properties, such as streets, railroads, and utilities. When one player has driven all other players bankrupt, the game is over. The remaining player is declared the winner.

History of Monopoly

Over the course of a century many people has contributed to the game. The origins of the game, however, can be traced back to an earlier game called “The Landlord’s Game” created by Lizzie Magie in 1904. The game was meant to be a tool for teaching the single tax theory of Henry George. The game was played by Quakers and Progressive groups in the United States, and it was also known as “Finance” or “Monopoly” and was a direct inspiration for Charles Darrow’s version of Monopoly.

The game’s rules and format were later established by an American, Charles Darrow, in 1933, during the Great Depression. Darrow, who was unemployed at the time, created the game as a way to pass the time and entertain himself and his friends. He hand-drew the game board and game pieces and began selling the game to friends and family.

Darrow’s game became so popular that he began selling it commercially, and eventually, caught the attention of the Parker Brothers game company. Then Parker Brothers acquired the rights to Monopoly and began mass-producing the game. The game quickly became a best-seller, and it has been in continuous production since then.

When the Parker Brothers company learned Darrow was not the sole inventor of the game, it bought the rights to Magie’s patent for $500. Monopoly is now one of the most popular board games in the world, and it has been translated into dozens of languages and sold in hundreds of countries.
