About the Death Note font
Death Note is a manga by writer Tsugumi Ohba and artist Takeshi Obata, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2003 to 2006. A high school student finds a notebook that can kill anyone whose name is written in it.
The title has sharp, pointed, medieval-looking letters, and it fits the mood of the story. Different covers, the anime and the live-action films each show slightly different versions. One font guide says the official logo was never released as a font file. Another says a typeface was made for the project and released later. We could not verify either, so we treat the logo as custom.
Death Note fonts and where to get them
Fan-made title fonts
Fan fonts for this series exist, usually named after it. One list names “Death Font” by Joshua1985 as close to the book cover and “Death Note” by Rebirth Organization as close to the film poster. Licenses vary, and many are for personal use. Check each page first.
Cloister Black
L’s writing in the story is often matched with the blackletter font Cloister Black. It is a fan-favorite choice for notebook text, but nothing official confirms it. Check the license on the download page before using it for money.
The Death Note name and logo belong to their rights holders. Fan edits and art are fine. Selling merch with the logo is not.
Using the look in your own projects
The series uses a lot of plain text next to the gothic title: names, dates and rules written in a notebook. That contrast is easy to copy. Pair a blackletter title with a handwriting or typewriter font and the page looks like it came from the story.
If you want to make a notebook-page prop for a cosplay or a school project, print on cream paper, add faint ruled lines and write the rules in a handwriting-style font. Keep the content original. Writing your own fictional rules is far more fun than copying lines from the series.

How to make Death Note-style text
- White or pale gray letters on a black background is the classic pairing.
- Add a thin red accent for names or a single word.
- Use a blackletter font for the title only. For long text, switch to a plain serif so it stays readable.
- Try an old-paper texture behind handwritten-style notes.
