Zelda Font

The Legend of Zelda logos are custom artwork, so there is no single Zelda font. The most-cited fan match for the Breath of the Wild look is Hylia Serif. Free Google Fonts like Cinzel and Marcellus give a similar ancient-storybook feel.

About the Zelda font

The series began in 1986, and its logo has changed a lot over the years. Breath of the Wild came out on March 3, 2017, and Tears of the Kingdom followed on May 12, 2023. Both use clean, wide letters that look carved and slightly worn.

One blog says the whole Breath of the Wild logo is set in one style, with the subtitle matching the main word. It also reports that the early Zelda titles used ITC Zapf International Demi for the word “Zelda”. We found no Nintendo statement confirming either, so treat both as reports.

Menu text in Breath of the Wild is reported to use FOT-Rodin, a commercial Japanese font that you can access only through an Adobe Fonts subscription.

Zelda fonts and where to get them

Hylia Serif

Hylia Serif is a fan font made by Artsy Omni from the text in Breath of the Wild. It is not official. You can find it, plus other Zelda-themed fonts, on the Zelda Universe fonts page. Read the license that comes with the file.

FOT-Rodin

FOT-Rodin is a commercial font by Fontworks. It is the style behind much in-game Japanese and Latin text. Use an Adobe Fonts subscription if you need it.

Zelda and Nintendo are trademarks of Nintendo. Fan art and edits are common. Selling items with the official logo is not allowed.

Using the look in your own projects

Zelda’s menus are clean and a little quiet, which sets them apart from the title art. The game relies on soft colors, thin lines and short labels, so your own project needs the same restraint if you want it to feel familiar.

If you build a fan menu or a map, set item names in a serif, descriptions in a sans serif, and keep icons simple. A gold border and a pale parchment color do more than a complex font. Check each fan font license, because some Zelda fonts on download sites copy game files, and those can be pulled without notice.

How to make Zelda-style text

  • Use pale gold or cream text on a deep teal or dark green background.
  • Keep the letters wide with plenty of spacing.
  • Add a thin gold border or a faint glow, but leave the rest plain.
  • For Sheikah-style writing, look for a font built for it. Be aware those fonts have their own licenses.
